Introduction to NESS International Science Network
NESS Plan is an international scientific plan aimed at safeguarding
children in every country in the world
Initiated by Chinese scientists, the National Eco-Security System (NESS) International Science Network (ISN) is an international scientific communication and collaboration network focusing on tackling global ecological crisis and ensuring the long-term survival of humanity (Homo sapiens). NESS ISN is a secondary academic institution established in March 2022 with support from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF).
The National Eco-Security System (NESS) focuses on the essential minimum Eco-Security conditions necessary for the long-term survival of humanity (all people in each country), encompassing the well-being of individuals (including one's own children and descendants), country (all people) and the collective survival of humanity as a species. To address this significant fundamental scientific question, it is urgently necessary for the scientific communities of various countries and the international scientific community to conduct a multidisciplinary and collaborative systematic study.
For the purpose, the inaugural NESS International Scientific Congress was held in Haikou in November 2022, where 202 experts and scholars from 156 organizations of 26 countries launched together the "One Target · An Eco-Security System for All People (Haikou) Initiative" to the global scientific community. The second Congress, convened in Haikou in October 2023, engaging 252 experts and students from 39 countries on site. The third Congress was held in Shennongjia, Hubei, in May 2024, attending by 318 experts and scholars from 71 countries on site. By the end of 2024, the initiative has garnered support of experts and scholars in 1,302 organizations including universities, research institutions, and other organizations from 154 countries. The International Editorial Committed of the NESS Global Report currently consists of 53 international editors and 25 international young editors from 60 countries, and 575 editors from various countries.
The primary tasks of NESS ISN are to encourage and support scientists from universities, research institutes and various disciplines in every country to engage in interdisciplinary research and cooperation on the minimal Eco-Security conditions essential for the long-term survival of people in their respective countries. This involves establishing an academic community dedicated to supporting this goal and developing National Eco-Security Systems (NESS) within each country. Through collaborative efforts based on individual country research, the network aims to foster international cooperation to ensure ecological conditions conducive to human survival and collectively construct the An Eco-Security System for All People on a global scale. The key activities and outcomes include:
1. Continuously carry out the initiative action themed "Lighting up the Heart of Science, Lighting up the Future of Humanity."
2. Organize the annual NESS International Congress; and,
3. Issue the annual Global Development Report on An Eco-Security System for All People (referred to NESS Global Report) and "Global TOP 1000 Institutions List for Human Eco-Security" (NESS TOP1000).
