The event was co-organized by Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Chaoyang Science Park (Beijing Chaoyang District Bureau of Science and Technology and Information Technology); Beijing Central Business District Administration Committee; Association for Science and Technology of Chaoyang District, Beijing; and NESS International Science Network.
Attendees included Qu Dacheng, Deputy District Mayor of Chaoyang; Lou Yixiang, Deputy Party Secretary and Director of Zhongguancun Chaoyang Park Management Committee; Tian Dexin, Founder and Chief Scientist of NESS International Science Network; and Representatives from the Beijing CBD Administration Committee, Chaoyang Park Management Committee, Chaoyang District Ecology and Environment Bureau, Donghu Subdistrict Office, and over 80 experts, scholars, and delegates from institutions and enterprises across 12 countries.
The workshop focused on promoting and implementing the vision of "An Eco-Security System for All People (ESSAP)" across different regions and countries.Participants exchanged practical experiences and innovative achievements in eco-security, analyzed current opportunities and challenges, and contributed to fostering international large scale scientific collaboration for the “community with shared future of humanity” and the “Eco-Security for the sustained survival of people in various countries”.
During the event, leaders from government agencies, universities, and research institutions, alongside multidisciplinary experts, international youth scholars, and corporate representatives, participated in the "Light Up the Heart of Science" ceremony and pledged to actively engage in global eco-security collaboration.Discussions highlighted how different fields and institutions could contribute to regional and national-level scientific research and international actions.
A key outcome of the workshop was the official release of the Global Development Report on an Eco-Security System for All People (2024), offering valuable insights and solutions for global eco-security efforts.
The report was co-authored by an international editorial committee of scholars from 54 countries and 596 representatives from universities and research institutions worldwide, documenting contributions from experts in 197 countries as of May 2025. It documents the progress made by experts, scholars, faculty, and students from all 37,000 higher education and research institutions globally in responding to the initiative and promises of paying attention to the Eco-Security conditions necessary for the long-term survival of their own countries — and humanity as a whole.
In recent years, Chaoyang District, as a key hub for international exchange in Beijing, has deepened reforms and expanded openness, fostering a dual-driven "Business + Technology" development model. The establishment of the International Science and Technology Organizations Headquarters Cluster at Donghu International Center—the first of its kind in China—has advanced Beijing’s "Two Districts" initiative and its role as an international sci-tech innovation center. Currently,13 international science organizations, including the International Society of Zoological Sciences and the International Society for Digital Earth, have settled in the cluster, accelerating Chaoyang’s emergence as a globally influential hub for scientific exchange and innovation.
The successful conclusion of this workshop marks a significant milestone in global eco-security dialogue, amplifying China’s voice and proposals in ecological governance. The forum highlighted the CBD Annual Meeting’s pivotal role in uniting global expertise and advancing international cooperation. Moving forward, Chaoyang District will leverage platforms like the CBD Forum to strengthen partnerships with embassies, experts, and enterprises, drive multidisciplinary innovation, and address global ecological challenges. By harnessing its concentration of universities and research institutions, Chaoyang will foster youth engagement and build international cooperation networks, contributing wisdom and solutions to global ecological civilization. The 2025 Beijing CBD Forum will continue to serve as a high-quality bridge for collaboration, injecting new momentum into worldwide eco-security efforts.
