NESS Index

The NESS Index for each country will accompany the publication of the NESS Global Report. This index measures the level of endorsement among scientists in a particular country for securing the essential ecological conditions necessary for the long-term survival of their own children, all children, and the population as a whole in the country. It is calculated based on the number of research organizations that have made the promise and the percentage of these organizations out of the total number of research institutions in the country. The NESS Index indicates the academic community's level of dedication to ensuring Eco-Security for the country's population. This index provides insights into the overall mindset and commitment of the academic community in tackling eco-security challenges, shaping the country's reputation.

This graph illustrates the NESS index, showing the quantity (blue) and proportion (orange) of scientists supported in various countries (represented by numbers on the horizontal axis). Countries making greater progress are positioned towards the front, while those making less progress are positioned towards the back.

A higher NESS Index indicates a greater level of support and engagement among scientists in a country, while a lower index suggests a need for greater awareness and action in this area.

The NESS index can also be visualized in the way at right, with different colors representing different continents/regions.

The NESS Index can be presented for a continent, for example, Africa as shown in the graph above.

The internal NESS index of a country can be represented as shown in the graph above, with the horizontal axis representing the country's research organizations (including universities and research institutions, and other organizations), with organizations with higher indices being placed at the forefront.

The organizations that tops the NESS Index in their own countries, and the one that tops the continent or the global NESS Index, will be proud of it. The promulgation of the NESS Index will encourage the academic community around the world to actively pay attention to and promote the joint building of "An Eco-Security System for All People", which will become one of the important indexes in the development of human civilization.
