An Eco-Security System for All People

International Forum on Nature Education

Forum Initiative

On October 29, 2023, during the NESS International Scientific Conference and Academic Seminar on Ecological Protection of the Community of Human Destiny, hosted by Hainan University and co-organized by Xiamen University, Hainan Normal University, and Haikou Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, the Eco-security system for all·International Forum on Nature Education was held. Seventeen experts from eight countries made wonderful speeches, Through rich case studies and systematic theoretical methods, in national parks, nature reserves, tourist areas, communities, villages and other scenes; through top-level design, nature tour guides, nature observation, nature aesthetic education, life education and other ways - thus comprehensively exploring the specific experience and roadmap of nature education in systematic design, content development, education methods, discipline construction, and cross-boundary cooperation with tourism and regional development. This forum discusses how to support the eco-security system (NESS) in the world through nature education contributing to a global community with a shared future for all.

Through intensive exchange and discussion, the participants highly agreed with the "One Target · Eco-security System for All (Haikou) Initiative", and agreed that natural education may play a positive and diversified role in the process of promoting and supporting its establishment at the regional and national levels. All nature educators must unite to take action in corresponding to the Haikou Initiative. Through nature education, actively promote public attention to understand and support "eco-security system for all" related methods and practice, improving public’s understanding, and be empowered to take action. With the wide attention and support of the whole society, we can face the future challenges of nature conservation, ecological degradation, sustainable development etc, and to find a better solution for all. This is the mission for nature education in this era Based on this consensus, the International Forum on Nature Education has issued the following initiatives to countries and international counterparts around the world:

1. We propose that all nature education related professionals around the world pay close attention to the development status and challenges of the global ecological environment, as well as the impact on the bottom line of Eco-Security for the survival and development of humanity, especially our youth, children and local people. Elevating our perspective from specific species, landscapes, and natural phenomena to the entire ecosystem and its inter-relationships between all lives. By integrating nature education into the blueprint of the global community and Eco-Security system, we should actively support and participate in the NESS related nature education work at home and abroad, so that nature education can play a more positive and long-lasting influence on the research and development of NESS in their own country. Nature and environmental education must benefit local communities for improved livelihoods and hence become stakeholders in protecting and conserving their environment.

We further propose that protected natural area institutions, nature education institutions and nature education professionals around the world actively consider and explore how to contribute to the mission of building a "community with a shared future for mankind". Through the development of nature education, uniting   schools, communities, governments and social organizations,, we can actively give full play to the advantages of nature education in the fields of popularization, facilitation, communication, cooperation, and action, transforming the achievements of scientific research, rules and regulations to the general public, promoting the development of disciplinary systems, professional systems and industrial systems of nature education, and promoting the whole public society to form a broad consensus on the importance and urgency of the concept of NESS, thus cultivating future green hope and promote active social action!

We call on all the nature education professionals from NESS member countries to strengthen mutual communication, and learning; to actively expand international cooperation, jointly create exchange programs and cooperation platforms in order to reach more people including policy makers, scientists, conservationists, educators, NGO, and the general public, including teenagers, business leaders and other stakeholders. Through this we can get to know and learn more about each other, help to deepen our understanding on the meaning, importance and urgency of an Eco-security System for ALL. Address our common but differentiated responsibilities based on specific conditions, and promote broader international cooperation, public participation and conservation actions. Together let’s jointly face the challenges of global sustainable development aims on a "community of shared future for all".
